Hot bags at Interpack 2011

09.06.2011

The fully automated production of modern shopping bags from woven plastic fabric is no longer a far-fetched idea: With the cb*starKON machine concept, Starlinger is on the way to overcome the last challenges in automated woven plastic bag conversion.

Woven shopping bags are gaining in popularity and have visibly become a part of our everyday shopping culture. But despite their assets – high strength, attractive looks, reduced raw material consumption and less waste due to reusability – one drawback is that until now they need to be converted and sewn by hand. Because of low labour costs, this is mainly done in Asian countries, a fact that causes long delivery times, high transportation costs, unnecessary pollution of the environment – and prevents bag converters in highly developed countries from entering this promising market.

It’s all in the bag: The CB*STAR® production concept

The cb*starKON 100 conversion line produces carrier bags with different handle types out of a composite of flat woven PP-fabric and reverse printed BOPP film in a fully automated production process. Thanks to its high degree of automation, Starlinger’s cb*starKON makes industrial production of shopping bags a profitable enterprise suited to highly industrialised countries: In a plant producing 30 million shopping bags a year, the cb*starKON pays for itself within a short time.

Durable, reusable, eco-friendly bags with advertising appeal

Not only economic efficiency, but also a balanced life cycle assessment was paramount in the development of CB*STAR® shopping bags. The woven polypropylene/BOPP film compound achieves a high degree of strength so that the bags can be used and reused more than 100 times, thus contributing considerably to the reduction of raw material consumption and plastic waste. In addition, they are also 100% recyclable.

The brilliant print quality of CB*STAR® shopping bags enhances their outstanding visual appeal; as the used BOPP film is reverse printed, the attractive printed motif is protected from abrasion and the shopping bag has a long useful life as an advertising medium.
